Powell River Child, Youth and Family
Services Society offers a variety of programs for families.
Fathers Involvement
Network

FIN celebrates the value of father
involvement. "Fathers" can include biological, adoptive, or foster
dads; or grandfathers, uncles, or any other male who fulfills a
fathering or mentoring role for young children.
Our goal is to create
a network of dads, and to provide dads with an opportunity to enjoy
a fun activity with their children.

Parent-Teen Mediation
-
A parent-teen
mediator acts as a neutral third party who sits down with you,
sometimes separately, usually together, and helps you have an
organized conversation.
-
The mediator also
teaches communication and problem-solving skills, with the aim
being to solve the immediate issue and equip you to do your own
problem-solving in the future.

Strengthening Families
A
unique 14 week program for parents to participate with their
children aged 6-11 years to help promote a positive family climate.
Enjoy a family meal
together, then parents and children split into separate,
facilitator-led interactive sessions, and reunite for family
building time together.

Family Preservation
-
This program is
accessed through MCFD referral and is designed to maintain child
and youth safety within their homes, or to facilitate
reunification after out-of-home placements.
-
The support is
goal orientated and time limited
(3 to 6 months), with frequent contact between service providers
and family members.
